Good Hotel Guide

The Good Hotel Guide is the leading independent guide to hotels in Great Britain, Ireland, Continental Europe and the Caribbean. The Guide was first published in 1978. It has been published each October since then. It is written for the reader seeking impartial advice on finding a good place to stay. Hotels cannot buy their entry into the print edition. No money changes hands, and the editors and inspectors do not accept free hospitality on their anonymous visits to hotels. We are proud to be one of their recommended hotels for many years now, and have been awarded their Editors Choice for a top golfing hotel venue.

Budock Vean Hotel has been awarded the Travellers' Choice Award 2021. This achievement celebrates businesses that consistently deliver fantastic experiences to travellers around the globe, having earned great traveller reviews on TripAdvisor over the last 12 months. As challenging as the past year was, Budock Vean stood out by continuously delighting their guests.

Visit England Quality Schemes

Visit England has awarded Budock Vean a 4 star Country House Hotel rating, including a Visit England Breakfast Award,  5 stars with a Gold Award for our self catering holiday homes, and 4 stars with a Gold Award for our holiday cottages.

Visit England offers a range of quality schemes for tourism businesses in England, all of which are managed by Visit England Assessment Services. Their team of over 50 trained quality assessors who visit us annually, assess the quality of our business and award star ratings and accreditation.

With strict criteria for each of the quality schemes, the Visit England assessors check the services and facilities offered to determine the most appropriate level of accreditation.  Each year, every aspect of the business is thoroughly inspected from the efficiency of the booking process to the level of service provided.

Gold and Silver Awards

VisitEngland’s Gold and Silver Awards celebrate accommodation establishments that outperform in their category, offering exceptional quality within their star rating. The awards help guests find special places where hosts go the extra mile, whatever the size, style or star rating of the accommodation.

Breakfast Award

As part of their annual assessment of Hotels and Guest Accommodation businesses, assessors will sample the breakfast, looking at the choice and range of dishes offered, presentation and culinary skills, quality of ingredients and produce, and breakfast service and hospitality. Those with exceptionally high scores will qualify for a VisitEngland Breakfast Award. Businesses must maintain the necessary scores for a Breakfast Award each year.

Cyber Essentials

Cyber Essentials (from the National Cyber Security Centre) is a simple but effective, Government backed scheme that will help protect our organisation against a wide range of the most common cyber attacks.

Cyber attacks come in many shapes and sizes, but the vast majority are very basic in nature, carried out by relatively unskilled individuals. They’re the digital equivalent of a thief trying your front door to see if it’s unlocked. This is important because vulnerability to simple attacks can mark you out as target for more in-depth unwanted attention from cyber criminals and others.

This certification gives us, and our guests, peace of mind that our defences will protect against the vast majority of common cyber attacks simply because these attacks are looking for targets which do not have the Cyber Essentials technical controls in place.
