Golf: August Seniors Round-Up
Back at the beginning of July, the Budock Vean Golf Club Seniors (or Beavers) team played host to their nearest neighbours, Falmouth, where local bragging rights were at stake. In an eagerly contested match the Beavers seized the home advantage and convincingly won 61/2 to 11/2. Our visitors departed looking, no doubt, at how they could avenge the result early in August.
August was a busy month, and started with the visit of Mullion. Once again the Beavers were in fine form and defeated their visitors 51/2 to 21/2. Two days later was the rematch with Falmouth, which was eagerly awaited. Once again the Beavers produced a superb display drawing 4-4, which captain Alan Mills was pleased to confirm gave BV an aggregate win of 101/2 – 51/2.
The Tony Grace Memorial Trophy was played on a lovely sunny day, with Geoff Mills winning the trophy which was presented by Julie Parker the CEO of local charity Penhaligon’s Friends. Alan Mills was then delighted to present Julie with a cheque for £ 2,032 raised on our Captains Charity Day.
St Austell were the Beavers next opponents, and again on a lovely August morning, a keenly contested match produced a 4-2 win for the Saints.
August brings into play the first leg of the Barlow Cup, played between BV and sister club Merlin. As the holders, and with a home advantage, BV won the opening leg 4-2. Will it be enough advantage to take away with them in September? Only time will tell.
The last day of the month saw the inagural ‘Tri Clubs Trophy’, a new competition played between BV, Mullion and Porthpean. Once again, a super sunny date allowed for an exciting competition to be played. Captain Alan Mills presented the new trophy to the winners Porthpean, who had 218 pts, Mullion came in second with 217 pts and BV finished with 216 pts. All very exciting and Mullion will host the competition next year.
