Budock Vean Golf Club said bon voyage to one of its longest and most respected members on Tuesday 8th September. Brian Hoskins has upped sticks and made the move to Northumberland, 22 years after landing in Mawnan Smith. The former Commander of the Red Arrows retired to Cornwall and found the village golf club, where he became a great contributor to its running and success over the years.
With three stints as club captain, treasurer, Beavers captain and finally finishing up as secretary, nothing was ever too much trouble. Within the village itself, Brian was a great community leader and contributor to both the church and school, he will be sorely missed.
The Beavers held a Presidents versus Captains golf day with a turnout of thirty two strong, in which Brian took part, and quite fittingly ended up on the victorious Presidents team. After which a presentation was given by the club, members and friends of a lead crystal decanter and glasses engraved with the club coat of arms, set on a mahogany tray, the ladies supplied him with his favourite whiskey to celebrate. The Beavers presented a beautiful Cornish tin goblet, mounted as a trophy, to, ‘Red Leader’ a cake to celebrate, and his membership to his new Golf club in Northumberland.
Budock Vean Golf Club wishes Brian and Lizzie all the best with their future, an away day could be on the cards.
