Tie the knot, Helford style

Small weddings, riverside weddings and, at certain times of the year, take-over weddings. Budock Vean weddings come in all shapes and sizes. They’re not off the peg. We don’t have standard packages because we work with couples to make sure their day is just that, theirs. The only things our weddings and civil partnerships have in common …  a beautiful touch of Budock Vean and a big dose of Helford River magic.

Budock Vean is the place where you can tie the knot right at the water’s edge on The Helford River. That’s exactly what Kären and Malcolm chose to do in autumn 2024. Their gorgeous wedding started with a Champagne Cornish breakfast at the hotel, tiaras an all, and ended up with the bride on her paddleboard in full wedding attire … and quite right too, a highlight of our day! With Cornwall’s registrar team set-up overlooking the river and chairs for friends and family all set out and beautiful, seasonal flowers provided by our gardener it was a really wonderful outdoor set up … we’ll let our happy couple explain ;

We had the most wonderful wedding and would like to thank you so very much for everything.

We decided to get married at Budock Vean as it was the first place we stayed together, and it is utterly beautiful.  We approached Sarah with some very vague requests. We knew we wanted an unconventional and intimate daytime wedding outside, without lots of decorations or a cake.  Sarah took our requests and ran with them!

Our day was perfect; we had a champagne breakfast with all of our guests – some of them didn’t know each other, it was a very casual but delicious breakfast!

After breakfast the guests walked down to the foreshore where the table was ready for the wedding, the hotel gardener had  provided the fabulous watering cans full of flowers from the grounds (and the flowers for my perfect bouquet) there were blankets for the guests in case it got cold.

We made our way to the foreshore, the sun was shining, the water sparkling with reflections of light, trees and boats as the backdrop for our marriage.

The Budock Vean cook provided the most delicious and hottest pasties we have ever eaten followed by enormous fluffy scones, jam and clotted cream with lashings of champagne and wine to wash it down.  We ate it like a picnic by the water and had bags of local fudge instead of a cake.

After the celebrations we treated our guests to an afternoon on the water (whether they wanted on or not) and Koru Kayaking organised kayaking for those with the energy or a boat trip for those without, it was amazing!

We both agreed that our wedding was the best day of our lives and far better than we could have imagined.

Thank you again to all of the staff at Budock Vean you made our day perfect and we are so very grateful.

Thank you so much Kären and Malcolm for letting us share these moments from your day. It was an absolute pleasure to be part of it and we loved your wedding – what a cracking day!  Much love from us all and enjoy married life!
